Fernando Torres


Fernando Torres is a Spanish professional soccer player, currently a forward/striker for English Premier League team Chelsea. He started his career in Atletico Madrid (2001-2007),  then moved to Liverpool (2007-11), then to his current team in 2011 for a record transfer fee of 50 million pounds, making him the most expensive Spanish player.


Torres also plays internationally for Spain. He score the winning goal for Spain in the UEFA Euro 2008 final against Germany, and scored again during the final of the Euro 2012 against Italy. He debuted for Spain in 2003.

Xabi Alonso



Xabi Alonso is a Spanish midfielder, currently playing for La Liga team Real Madrid. He previously played for Real Sociedad (1999-2004), Eibar (on loan, 2000-01), and Liverpool (2004-09) before he moved to his current team, where he got paid £30 million . He helped Liverpool win the Champions League crown in 2004. 






Alonso is also a Spanish international, having participated in various tournaments, notably Euro 2004 and 2008, as well as the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. Spain both won the Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup.

Feat of Clay


Rafael Nadal set another record when he won the 2012 Barcelona Open last weekend. By beating David Ferrer 7-6, 7-5 in the finals, Nadal now has won the tournament seven times. The victory came at the heels of his record eighth title in Monte Carlo two weeks ago. 


Nadal defeated Fernando Verdasco in the semis, while Ferrer defeated Milos Raonic to book a place in the finals. 





Nadal debuted in professional tennis in the same tournament in 2002, as a 15-year old. Nadal He now has 48 ATP singles titles, 34 of which are in clay. He also became the first tennis player in the open era to win seven straight titles in two tournaments.

Fernando Verdasco


Fernando Verdasco is a professional tennis player from Madrid, Spain. Currently no. 22 in the world, he reached his highest ranking in April 20, 2009, at no. 7. He turned pro in 2001, and won his first career ATP title in Valencia, in 2004. 

Verdasco, who plays left-handed, reached the semi-finals of Australian Open  in 2009, losing to Rafael Nadal, who went on to win the title. He also reached the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2009 and 2010. He recently lost to David Ferrer in the finals of Mexican Open  in Acapulco. 


Off court, Verdasco models for Calvin Klein underwear.

Rafael Nadal


Rafael Nadal is a Spanish tennis player. He is currently ranked No. 2 in the world, having been No. 1 for weeks 102 weeks. He is regarded as the greatest clay court player of all time. He won 10 Grand Slam titles and a total of 46 singles titles (as of Feb 2012).

Nadal is one of the only two players to achieve a career golden Slam: an Olympic gold medal in singles tennis event, and winning the four major tennis tournaments, namely the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Iker Casillas



Iker Casillas is a Spanish footballer. He plays as captain to Real Madrid in La Liga, and to the Spanish national team. He was named the best goalkeeper in 2010 World Cup, where he led Spain to championship. Casillas started his soccer career in Real Madrid youth system in 1990. He first debut in the senior side in 1998.
